8 And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?” 9 And Saul eyed David from that day on.
It is so easy to turn the gifts that God has given us into our own successes. Saul started out timid and was reluctant to be king, but now he is jealous of David for being more popular. I think deep down his fear man changed his heart and he believed he deserved to be king.
I like how P. Shawn says," If we live a life of trying to measure up, we will always fall short." Striving for earthly things like the perfect job, house, or whatever will leave me empty and searching for more. Help me God to have my eyes fixed on you and to celebrate in the things you are doing. I pray that even for missions I would not be just focused on what I need to do or if I am doing as much as the next person. But help me see and pray for what you are doing!
