Three thoughts from the 1 Samuel 9 passage:

1. God is in the details, with the whole world and all of history in His hands.  This passage is chock full of seemingly little details of "just another ordinary day" that came together to fit into something so much bigger; even the later mistakes became part of something greater.  I could easily imagine each scene and the little conversations that are mentioned in this passage, each one a chain linking to the next scene -- find the donkeys, can't find 'em/let's head back, wait there's someone who might be able to help us, and on and on till finally Saul and Samuel are face to face in conversation.  God, You are in the details.

2. Samuel was known among the people and he cooperated with what the Lord was doing.  Nothing more to comment about this except that it stuck out to me how God revealed exactly what was necessary in due time to his man Samuel and that Samuel moved and acted according to how God led him.  Lord, help me to be sensitive to hear you, to be attentive to listen to Your words, and to trust and obey You.

3. Saul, who stood out from the crowd in appearance, must have been accustomed to being noticed throughout his life.  This probably wasn't the first time he was treated as someone special (I'm guessing?).  Interestingly, he responds with humility and was very aware of his status as a Benjamite.  He must've been very accustomed to looking around and being aware of his horizontal status and never really developed what it was to be keenly aware of his vertical status.  Lord, help me to gaze upon You and know who I am in You.
